Welcome to 110 Christian Horizons Sudbury employees who have joined the Union
A warm welcome to the employees at Christian Horizons Sudbury!
The Personal and Developmental Support Workers (PSWs and DSWs) are seeking improvements to their working lives just like the 850 more Christian Horizons workers who’ve joined the Local Union since July 2019.
In a campaign that lasted just over three months, the UFCW Local 175 Organizing Team assisted a group of five dedicated employees to help inform their co-workers of their rights and the benefits of joining the Union.
In addition to knowing that their colleagues in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) had already joined the Union in the past two years, a number of other concerns led the employees at Christian Horizons Sudbury to seek Union representation. The employees want to benefit from the process of collective bargaining to address favouritism and respect in the workplace by establishing equitable language and policies, and to work toward better wages, job security, benefits, and other working conditions.
The healthcare workers at Christian Horizons Sudbury and the other locations across the province provide services in group home settings for people with developmental and physical disabilities.
In the last two years, about 850 Christian Horizons employees from the GTA have also voted Union Yes to join UFCW Local 175.
